Memories, Dreams, Reflections

Ink on paper
29x 42cm

Created in June this year, ‘Memories, Dreams, Reflections’ are a series of ink paintings which depict the act of surrendering oneself into subconscious thoughts.

The title of the series lends its name from the famous, partially autobiographical book, of the Psychologist Carl Jung. Jung writes to explore his psyche; inspired by this, these paintings are an exploration of what happens when we drift off and step into dream worlds.

The figures in the paintings are of real dancers, whom I draw whilst they rehearse. I work quickly to capture the essence of the dancer loosing oneself in a moment, before they are snatched back into reality. Working in ink allows me to keep up with the pace and rhythm of the dancers emotions. I use ink to unblock my thoughts and reveal my hidden imaginations; it has an unruly mind of its own and allows for unexpected results.
