The ‘Uncomfortable’ Gremlin

THE PRESSURE COOKER OF THIS TIME

Deep down, all humans are essentially the same. We all want to love and be loved. We all want something to work for, and we want to feel a connection. Deep down, everybody is scared, and that’s normal because being scared means you have something to protect. But that fear guards the treasure, and you don’t need a perfectly comfortable environment to enjoy life. Provided. You’re in alignment with what matters to you.

Creativity, like a skilled personal trainer, is a craft that deceives with its apparent ease. Behind the scenes, creativity demands a different kind of work that isn't neatly invoiced at the end of the day. Tenderness, determination, loneliness, and faith — are the very nature of the bravery it takes to befriend the inner Gremlin.

‘I’m Thinking of You’

The pressure cooker of this time asks the Gremlins to define what is important to us and be brave enough to make our life about that, regardless of powerful forces against us. Life's enjoyment doesn't hinge on everything being perfect.

Instead, it's about the 'why.' When we know our why, we can find peace in alignment and be in a more unconditional relationship with the life we’re living.

The trouble? It puts a lot of pressure on knowing a why and importance on our own lives when, in reality, it’s perhaps not that self-involved. Perhaps… it's all about love. Solo or shared, nearly every 'why' finds its union in love. My why is to use creativity and beauty as an act of worship and to view creative empowerment as the common ground for evolution.

‘This is The Right Thing’

This ‘why’ means that even when things get ugly, I tell myself, “OK, even the ugly bits play a crucial role—they are the contrasting backdrop against which beauty shines brightest.” It’s simply a lens of looking at everything that comes into life as an opportunity and a test. The hopeful creator within must find a reason, for without it, cynicism takes root. And cynicism feels like surrendering midway through the race—it's a necessary milestone towards wisdom, not the final destination.

Amidst the uncontrollable chaos, seeking the bigger picture can send our Gremlins into a tailspin. The key is to let the pressure define our priorities and then act courageously in accordance with them. Whether it's love, creativity, or justice, the wellspring lies within. No more pointing fingers; responsibility is looking at the three fingers pointing back at us. Now is not the time to stop making beautiful things.

The adage “Be the change you want to see" may have become a cliché, but its profound simplicity holds true. To be creative is an act of resistance and hope.

Healing comes as a by-product of discovering innate gifts and acting in alignment with those gifts. Collective gifts. Collective healing.

‘Everybody is Scared’

‘Boomerang’

In the city of giants, we
Rest on the shoulders of today
And remember our future
Out of the things that we say

A child with a loaded gun
We cast spells with the tongue
Unaware of the roulette
We gamble our sweet fate

So guard the tongue when it runs into fear
And talk into existence all that can be
Letter by letter
The wordsmiths boomerang our destiny

- Karimah

- A poem about choosing the words we use

I remember the future when I talk into existence all I can be.  Words have power; when we speak, we spell potential futures with our tongues. Whether I cut you down or raise you up with my words, the energy of intention sends a boomerang in motion that will eventually cross paths with you again. The energy of our speech comes back to us, so why not master the word and boomerang into our destiny?

Musings

Recognized early, cynicism can become the first step toward wisdom.
Cynicism + courage + faith = hope.

“I’ve learned that I’m most powerful when I’m doing my art.”

- Andre 3000

“Good creative doesn’t beg for attention.”

- Emma Chamberlain
