Gremlin (noun) - an imaginary mischievous creature that causes trouble to a system.
Taking you along the ride as I question everything and bring home a new truth every Sunday.
The ‘Revolutionary’ Gremlin
True progress eludes us until we forgive, and we cannot forgive until we understand, which requires conversation. We will only have honest conversations when we trust there will be space and love to change. Without love, conversations spiral into defence; without space, dances become constrained.
The ‘Rejected’ Gremlin
“How do you deal with rejection?” It’s the clichéd question many interviewers ask when they want to reveal what happens behind the scenes in the life of anyone remotely ‘successful’.
The ‘Phoenix’ Gremlin
The premise is that you’re only as powerful as what you are willing to give away. As artists and creators, our power lies in sharing our creativity. If we can't give it away, it controls us.
The ‘Groomed’ Gremlin
Then there are the creations that come after we’ve gotten into alignment. The tricky part for a creator is that often, the thing that gets us into alignment is the start of our magic. But not every sketch along the way requires an audience. Sometimes, it's just a stepping stone to the thing that wants to be seen.
The ‘In Love’ Gremlin
Love is like water; it finds the path of least resistance from source to mouth. Love changes state; it can be raging and stormy or as light as morning dew. Love can crash in like an iceberg or sneak in quietly like mist on a cloudy morning. Once you let love into your life, it will spill out.
The ‘Christopher Hitchens’ Gremlin:
In that little sentence, I realised there’s a painfully simple key to evolution. If we learn to detach from the how of our identity and instead listen to and converse with the why of our desires, we would probably all be much happier.
The ‘Magical’ Gremlin
When you look for magic, magic will find you. When I carry my notebook, the ideas come. When I use the brush, the images flow, and when I have a camera in my pocket, the moment arrives. So, what comes first? Inspiration or preparation?
The ‘Shiny’ Gremlin:
You were born for these times; now is not the time to stop making beautiful things.
The ‘Press Pause’ Gremlin:
Allow yourself time. Take the necessary moments to address your thoughts; when you do, resist the urge to rush through them. Approach them with a philosophical mindset, but avoid indulging in pontification; instead, focus on evolving.
The ‘Potential’ of a Gremlin
These waves of emotion come and go, each one shedding old skin and revealing a new layer of growth. And while I've been down this road before, I can't help but berate myself for succumbing to such intense emotions and for feeling anxious about not making music.
The ‘Q1’ Gremlin
Q1 LESSONS. 1. When an opportunity comes, level it down. That is the time to get pragmatic, not carried away. 2. Beauty is not trivial. Is it a keystone of happiness. 3. The event is not traumatic; the trauma is how you deal with it afterwards and the story you construct. 4. Block out distractions by placing what you must do in your eyesight.
The ‘Contradicting’ Gremlin
Both can be true. You can find joy in chaos, loneliness in a crowd, and strength in vulnerability. To be a real human is to be a contradiction. Contradiction takes time to understand and time to express.
The ‘Boxing’ Gremlin
When people put work out there in the world, it is their job to make it look easy. But that doesn’t mean it is easy. I often think about a personal trainer whose job is to lead a class and make it look easy. After all, we wouldn’t trust a trainer who is less fit than us. Likewise, I don’t trust a creative who spends more time telling me they are scared to share than actually having the courage to share.
The ‘Inspired’ Gremlin:
There is no such thing as inspiration; instead, there are moments of presence that give you the courage to believe. On Tuesday morning, I woke up with this thought.
The ‘Curious’ Gremlin:
Amidst the glitz and glamour, I found myself intrigued by the power of words, regardless of their context. So, I decided to embark on an experiment.
The ‘Max’ Gremlin
“It will take a minuet…but in the meantime stay positive, use what you have and keep creating.” I didn't realise how good the advice was until hours and days later when I kept returning to it. Every time I beat up on myself, or every time I felt overwhelmed or lethargy… I just came back to, stay positive, keep creating.
The ‘Firsty’ Gremlin
FIRST TRAP nounSlang : Unlike the alluring social media ‘thirst trap designed to clickbait oneself into pandering to the crowd, a ‘first’ trap is an inner dialogue designed to stop a Gremlin the moment they are about to share their authenticity.
The ‘Feminine’ Gremlin
Fearlessness isn't a hasty masculine charge into battle; it's deeply feminine. It's about feeling fear and transforming it through heart, voice, and sight into compassion, love, and humility. Fearlessness, in its truest form, embodies the feminine essence.
The ‘Praying’ Gremlin
Just Create. Do not ask, do not demand, do not struggle. Just Create.
The ‘Masculine’ Gremlin
The current theme in my life centres around patience and perseverance, learning to no longer waste energy on impatient reactions but patiently act WITHIN THE DISCOMFORT and MOVE WITH life. Be patient with yourself as you move through the world. Be patient with others, and allow them to be patient with you. Sometimes, the greatest teachers come in the least expected of places.
