The ‘Seth Godin’ Gremlin:
This week I finished up the abrdn Yearbook commission - a project I’ve been working on for over a year. It’s something that I spent a lot of time on and like most gremlins, I’ve been lining up the next projects so that there is no limbo time and I can jump right into the next one. Right? Wrong.
Well, at least there’s something I need to do now that old me was bad at, current me is better at and future be will be PRO at and this is ‘SHIPPING’. When I read ‘The Practice’ by Seth Godin, my process shifted. Godin helped me realise something that as a naïve gremlin, I missed WAY too many times and that is - YOU GOTTA SHIP THE PRODUCT KID. I.e. there’s no point sitting with dead stock images and creative goodness in my phone- that’s no good to anyone. I need to share my work in order to finish the project properly.
As creators we love the creating and playing part so much that we often overlook the sharing piece of the puzzle. BUT THE SHARING is how you all see the work. The hurdle is that by the time we finish the project, we are so ‘done with it’ and exhausted that we often don’t give our audience the time to take it in properly. Hence, the shipping is equally, if not more important as the making. It’s something I’m getting use to and I’m sharing this part of where I’m at with you because I know a lot of us gremlins fall short of sharing our goodies.
I’m currently making a tour video of the exhibtion and scanning it in 3D so that you can view it online and will share over the week.
With love from Moreen, her pops, and myself.
Till next time you beautiful beast,
