The ‘Trending’ Gremlin:
This week Gremlins, I’ve been in Scandi central visiting Copenhagen Fashion Week. By now - I’m sure you know that my greedy paws love all things creative and fashion is one pot I like to get my claws stuck in. Going to a fashion show is like going to the zoo. For human peacocks. AND PEACOCKS ARE INSPIRING COLOUR MUSES FOR BUDDING PAINTERS. Think ego, bravado, colour, music, lighting, pace, rhythm, confidence, unique style and above all else, expression.
I still have a love hate relationship with the word ‘trends’. I don’t like it when things are too obvious and humans follow each other mindlessly, but I like looking at where the collective is going.
I wrote about my experience with a fashionista street photographer who changed my perception of what it means to be on trend. But more than that I feel inspired to bring these elements of style, lighting and music into the production of my paintings - excited to see where that can lead to.
Where I’m At:
Copenhagen Fashion Week - Diving into the colour palettes and values of Danish/Scandi designers like Ganni, and Malene Birger.
What I’m painting:
On the move - Taking my sketchbook with me to get in at least 30mins - 1hr of painting a day.
What I’m Writing:
“If you are here in this moment, you are part of the culture. To dismiss high fashion because it appears un-relatable is to dismiss the power of culture to shape our lives. The same way that people feel excluded from places like the Royal Academy or MOMA is the same reason we feel excluded by fashion. One image doesn’t fit all and sometimes it takes new people in a space to give us the permission to take ownership of that space. This is me, simply saying that we are not victim to elitism but, instead, can be empowered by the production and execution of high end culture and infuse fashion, music, art with our values to MAKE that a trend…”
Till next time you beautiful beast,
