The ‘Coddiwomple’ Gremlin

Yes that's right. “Cod-ee-wom-ple.”

coddiwomple: to travel purposefully without a clear destination.

I came across this word, a recent invention, which describes the creative quests we Gremlins go on. ‘Coddiwompling’ is about the journey, which makes it a cousin of words such as ‘roaming’ and ‘wandering’. Buttttt, unlike it’s relatives, coddiwompling is far more determined, it screams ‘you may not know where you’re going, but wherever it is, you’ll get there’. And I like that.

What I’ve been saying:

I came up with the theme for this weeks newsletter upon reflecting what I’ve been up to this week. This week I swapped songs with a music legend, painted a mural in Canary Wharf, dreamt aloud with actors and had nervous butterflies. I went to parts of London I’m not usually exposed to and it got me thinking about the joy of saying yes even when you don’t know where it’s taking you.

Here is a snippet of the cheeky little interview I did with Wolf&Badger.

What’s next for you in 2022?

“Lots of exciting things! Think audio, poetry samples over paintings, spoken word and public art. I have a few projects under wraps that I can’t reveal but they involve me crossing the Atlantic! I have some paintings that are commissioned to go on display in Shoreditch this month. Also, I’m currently working on a mural design for a favourite restaurant of mine (and most likely yours too) which will open soon.”

What I’ve been carving:

She’s in progress but still photogenic. This is a snapshot of the new lino block I’m printing for the monthly Goldprint NFT series.

What I’ve been painting:

Ze mural - a commission I did for a 70’s inspired restaurant that is about to open. For now all I can share is a suspicious, sexy, drippy paint can and a few non-descriptive closeups. More photos to follow soon.

P.S I will share goodies from the mural adventure with you when the project goes live in three weeks.

Till next time you beautiful, meandering, very determined, coddiwompling beast.
