The ‘devoted’ Gremlin:

D E V O T I O N

This word has been following me around like a bad smell all week. It started with a lecture on Sunday evening and looped back on itself with a poem that I wrote this morning. It speaks into the anguish that most gremlins feel - the aching gap between our taste buds and what we’re making. The crippling distance that simultaneously feels insurmountable and alluring. Like a forbidden lover, or a mountain on the horizon, the only thing to satiate the hunger of a gremlin is by creating. Bite after bite, we move more and more and more, until the devotion of practice devours the gap and we eep closer towards our unique expression.

What I’m Writing:

A poem about the unending creative appetite and how it follows you round everywhere.

‘BRB Nothing Else matters’

…You’ve been following me around for three years now
Three years of ten years
All in for some of it, dragged around for most of it
BRB Nothing else matters

Three decades of sun loops
Thirty years we won’t stop
We wont abort mission and we wont give up
BRB Nothing else matters

I go slow, play the long game
Stack goodies upon goodness
Stretch the palms an inch wider, breath a little lighter
BRB Nothing else matters

What I’m painting:

I’m putting on the finishing touches of the ‘abrdn’ yearbook commission that will be on display and compiled into a book at the end of July.

Plus as always, doing lots and lots of painting, sketches, lino print designs, writing and other things that go into the vault like this little ray of sunshine below.

Till next time you beautiful beast,

K X
