The ‘are you high or are you just really switched on’ Gremlin:
This week I’ve been on the move and I forgot how important experiencing new places, colours and senses is for my creativity until I started writing and thought - “Karimah, I know you’re totally sober but right now you sound crazy” Great. I thought. “Keep writing, this is gold and one day, just maybe, this will make a good opening chapter or at-least explain my obsession with colour.”
Here’s a snippet below:
What I’m Writing:
The ‘Memory of Colour’
Have you noticed that the light in every location is different? The light in Ibiza hits differently than Rome. In Rome the light is golden. In Ibiza it’s blue, and in Egypt it is yellow with a hint of pink. In Marrakesh the light has memories of the clay under the Atlas Mountains with traces of burnt orange, whilst in Havana, the light feels thick and dances up and down from the clouds to ground in deep bellows, it morphs jubilantly between candy pink, lemon yellow and baby blue across atmospheres.
No light is the same, every colour has thousands of hues, and the unique wavelength of each lightwave subconsciously shapes what we pay attention to.
What I’m painting:
Small, sketch paintings/ memories at the table whilst I’m on the move like this one below.
Where I’m At:
Wide eyed and taking in the goodies
Till next time you beautiful beast,
