The Radical Tina Gremlin:
Hey gremlins, you know how last week I said I was on my way to Wales and would return with some goodies? Well, I went, it was great and it was intense. I cried, we all cried, I ate, we all ate, and I wrote non stop - we didn’t all do that. And now, I've got two things for you:
1- A write up of the week residency to give you an idea about how we can get paid to rest?! (Yes capitalism take that.)
2- A poem that’s a bit of a ‘run through the streets and fly your gremlin flag’ kinda vibe.
Here is a snippet from both:
I met Tina back in 2020 through a game of Instagram ping pong - I shared Tina’s post, she messaged me, we face timed and somehow we became long distance lockdown pals; leaving voice notes and dumb jokes before we’d even met IRL. I loved the heart and soul that Tina operated with and I could tell she knew how to navigate boundaries and hard conversations. Since 2019, Tina has been studying root structures called mycelia as a way of learning about natural systems of care. Through a somewhat slow and totally organic process (throw in another rooted pun ;) two years later I found myself part of the project.
As freelancers we bill by the hour and we understand that our time is money, hence, to operate non extractively means even more to us. In a time where wellness is co-opted for financial gain, to take six artists to nature and essentially pay them to rest is, by all means, radical…
“This song has got me riding down Kingsland road like a dervish
One hand to the tarmac the other to the heavens
The role of the artist
is to make make the revolution irresistible…”
Till next time fluffy beast,
